About

Caio Bosco is a brazilian singer / songwriter and guitar player. Born in 1979 in the coast of São Paulo / Brazil, his artistic features are his unmistakable soulful voice, his style as guitar player (groove, psychedelic and art noisey sometimes) and his productions that blend jazz funk, soul jazz, psychedelic rock, brazilian music and hip hop 90’s instrumental tracks. He started his career in 2005 with the psychedelic hip hop duo Radiola Santa Rosa and his two albums that are called “Disqueria”and his dub version “Duberia”, After 2008, Caio starts his own solo career.

After a while, producing, writing and developing his own material, in 2009 he released the “Diamante EP” and in 2012, released his full lenght homonym album, with colaborations of the legendary Jim Waters (Explosion, Sonic Youth et Calexico) and Alexandre Basa (Black Alien et Turbo Trio). This album combines elements of brazilian music, soul/funk and electronic with a sunshine vibe. In 2013, Caio released the entirely acoustic “Fårö EP”, voice and guitar recorded with only one mic in July 2012, inside a cottage on the island Fårö / Gotland. A beautiful place where Ingmar Bergman used to live and for whom this EP is dedicated.

His second studio full lenght album, Cerebral, was released in 2015, drawing a parallel between the lo-fi recording technics of the 1990’s with a Psychedelic Rare Grooves sound of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Continuing the partnership that began in 2011, the artist worked again with the legendaries Jim Waters (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion’s, Sonic Youth), that mixed the entirely album using analog system in Tucson / Arizona, as well as Fred Kevorkian, whose mastering was made in New York.

The instrumental tracks of the album were recorded in analog system, using a Tascam Portastudio 424 mkII 4 Track Cassete Tape Recorder, with the musicians playing together in a room in a beautiful beach coast of Sao Paulo. The instruments used on the recordings helped to define the timbre of the album, as a wonderful Framus guitar (1965), a brazilian handmade electric piano of 1970’s, a brazilian handmade analog synthesizer, a Fender Bass Musicmaster of 70’s, besides tube amps and the drums that was recorded with a one only microphone, using the sounds and reverberations of the room.

In 2016, Caio Bosco joined with the electronic producer Jovem Palerosi and they released together le single “Ceneri” for the Fluxx / THUMP / VICE labels. The song is a tribute to the memory of DJ Gringo (Mauro Lussi), a mutual friend. Patcha Mama EP was released in July 2017 and contains three songs that was out takes of the Cerebral’s sessions, among them, “Vaporiser” was entirely redone, with Caio using synths and sampler machines for sampling that original take, besides the vocals, guitars and synths.

This EP is a strong diviser from his career, because this represents the end of the Cerebral period (the group that followed Caio at gigs for alost seven years), his change from Brazil to France, the return for the electronic music and his first steps as a director of his music videos. Now, Caio Bosco prepares his next album and he creates un alter ego called “Bosco D’Amore” to do his incursions on the instrumental dance music et sampladelic (Hip Hop, House, Dub, etc..).

Caio Bosco is a Kaleidoscope of influences, since Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Funkadelic, Sly and The Family Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrissson, Neil Young, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Novos Baianos, Mutantes, Jorge Ben, Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, Boards of Canada, Beastie Boys, lee Scratch Perry, Can, Neu!, Serge Gainsbourg, Stockhousen, Iannis Xenakis, King Tubby, Roy Ayers Dj Shadow, Captain Beefheart, Tim Buckley, War, Jards Macalé, Gil-Scott Heron and the list is endless…
